ATR ATR72-500

Versatile bird
The ATR turboprop, a popular aircraft ever since its maiden flight in 1984, has been busy serving the members of Lufthansa Regional, too: Air Dolomiti operates the ATR 72. The aircraft are built by the Avions de Transport Régional consortium in Toulouse, France, which consists of Italy’s Alenia Aeronautica and Airbus manufacturer, EADS. Brand new, an ATR costs at least 13 million dollars. The important advantage: the large cargo door and wide cabins make it relatively easy to convert the turboprop into a cargo plane.
