Brussels Airlines
Brussels Airlines was founded in November 2006 as the successor to the Belgian flag carrier Sabena (founded in 1923), which was declared bankrupt in 2001. In 2004 SN Brussels Airlines merged with Virgin Express.
Brussels Airlines launched its inaugural flight in March 2007.
The airline is owned by a consortium of 40 Belgian investors, who own just over 70 per cent of the company’s share capital. The largest shareholder since the merger with Virgin Express at the end of 2004 is Virgin Atlantic.
During its first year in operation, Brussels Airlines carried 5.8 million passengers. The company, which has its headquarters in Brussels, now employs a staff of about 3,000.
Route Network
Brussels Airlines’ hub is in Brussels. In Germany, the carrier serves Berlin, Hamburg, Frankfurt/Main and Munich.
From its Brussels hub, the Belgian carrier also serves about 55 destinations in Europe, 14 destinations in Africa and two in North America. It also flies to destinations in the United Arab Emirates, China and India.

On its European routes, Brussels Airlines offers a low-fare product (b.light economy) and a highly flexible product that offers passengers time savings and comfort at reasonable prices (b.flex economy +).
