HelpAlliance and Lufthansa help flood victims
Aid for the victims of the devasting floods in Pakistan is finally getting through, but the dangers facing the people have by no means been banished. Millions of Pakistanis are threatened by famine and disease. Clean drinking water is a very rare commodity, so the HelpAlliance aid organization and Lufthansa are initially providing water purification tablets for immediate relief. Around 600,000 of the tablets to purify six million litres of water are being flown to the disaster area.
Lufthansa Cargo quickly organised a special charter flight to transport the relief supplies from Frankfurt to Islamabad. Also on board the flight are 50 tonnes of emergency aid, such as medical equipment, for the United Nations Population Fund. Preparations are already underway for further flights to Islamabad.
Cargo Lufthanseats in Islamabad are ensuring that the water tablets actually arrive in the refugee camps. This local support guarantees that every single cent donated by the HelpAlliance benefits the people most in need.
Overwhelming help has also come from staff donations at Lufthansa. Human Resources Chief Stefan Lauer has reaffirmed Lufthansa’s support for the work of the HelpAlliance and pledged that the Company will double every single euro donated by the staff.

Six million people in Pakistan are urgently in need of help for their survival.
All in all, about 17 million Pakistanis are affected by the floods, which have inundated an area about the size of Italy. Around three and a half million children are threatened by deadly infectious diseases transmitted by insects and polluted water.
The registered association “HelpAlliance – Lufthansa employees lend a helping hand” was founded in 1999 by employees from all parts of the Lufthansa Group.
Ever since, the association’s members have been committed to numerous aid projects around the world. Lufthansa has supported the HelpAlliance with financial and logistical means since its inception.
