Air traffic hub with short routes
Flying with Lufthansa from, to or through Dusseldorf
Lufthansa has invested substantially in Dusseldorf, in recent years. With the stationing of Airbus long-haul jets at its major regional base, it has significantly expanded the number of flights it offers to intercontinental destinations in North America. There are currently three A330-300s stationed at Dusseldorf Airport. In the coming summer flight schedules, Lufthansa is laying on around 60 direct connections ex Dusseldorf to destinations in Germany, Europe and the USA.
All that is for very good reason: Dusseldorf lies at the heart of one of Europe’s biggest catchment areas. About 20 million people live within a radius of 100 kilometres from the airport in the state capital of North Rhine-Westphalia – it is the third biggest air traffic hub in Germany. Dusseldorf International Airport offers so many advantages to departing or incoming passengers as well as those passing through in transit. Routes through the terminal are noticeably short, connecting times are fast and downtown Dusseldorf is nearby.
Comfortable boarding
All gates are within 5 minutes’ reach
In cooperation with Dusseldorf Airport, the infrastructure has been vastly improved in recent months, allowing faster check-in, comfortable boarding and a dependable connecting time of 35 minutes. All gates are within 5 minutes’ reach. The maximum distance from check-in to the aircraft door is about 200 metres. Security checks have been optimised to appreciably shorten the passage through for passengers to board their flight.

In addition to the re-designed, exclusive check-in area for First-Class passengers and customers with HON status, more self-operated check-in terminals are now in place. The refurbished and, in some cases, enlarged Senator and Business-Class lounges ensure a pleasant and relaxed stay at the airport.

More information about the base
Lufthansa is a popular employer in North Rhine-Westphalia, Germany’s most densely populated state. The Group employs around 5,000 staff in the state in its passenger, MRO, logistics and catering business segments. Of the total, no less than 2,000 work in Dusseldorf. With the stationing of three A340-300 long-haul jets in Dusseldorf in 2008, the Lufthansa Group created an additional 500 new jobs. The autonomy of this third biggest Lufthansa base was enhanced recently with the stationing there of long-haul crews and expansion of aircraft maintenance and overhaul services.
